If youre in the second category, you and I need to talk
Six months ago, I was you. When I was young my NHS dentist was struck off for malpractice - a situation that left me so terrified that I hadnt set foot in a dentist for 20 years, and those 20 years had taken their toll. Broken teeth, desperate need of treatment, but worse than that, the genuine fear they may all need to be removed and start again; 20 years of fear and discomfort.
And then the abscess happened - theyd happened before and Id treated them at home, but this one wasnt going to quit and after nearly two weeks we were out of straws
It was at that point that I (having read the reviews) I contacted the Mindful Dentist:
At The Mindful Dentist I was treated with care, empathy, respect, and without judgement. We worked out the plan (surprisingly reasonably priced), this involved a trip to Guys to extract several broken teeth (under general anaesthetic) - heres the thing, I woke up and genuinely thought they hadnt been able to do it, thats how little pain I was in.
Six months after that first visit, I actually feel in control of what is happening with my oral health for the first time for as long as I can remember.
It is no understatement to say these people have changed my life. My teeth had been a constant concern, always there in the back of my mind; subconscious, yes, but always there (astonishingly it later became apparent it was even elevating my blood pressure). Two weeks ago I was at an event, and for the first time in as long as I can remember I caught myself smiling using my teeth - the things that had effectively held me to ransom for so long had finally become something I was comfortable to show.
Believe me, I know how it feels to be reading this if you were me, I know that its terrifying, but the worst step is the first step, and trust me after that there really is no looking back. It really is going to be fine, just call them and in six months time youre going to be wondering what took you so long!
