Tavener were the builders employed by our absent neighbour in the flat below. We have had 6 months of them on the job below, and have had negligible consideration shown to us. We were never even informed of any works starting at any time, including scaffolding erected outside our window on the road side. Starting in July, our flat was covered in thick dust from the taking down of a plaster ceiling, which lasted for weeks. Obviously there has been continual noise, exacerbated by the fact that the owner's terrace below us was used throughout the summer, windows and doors open. The last few days they have been varnishing a large wooden floor, the strong solvent fumes coming up from below have blighted the first 2 hours of the day from 8-10, giving us headaches and making our kitchen unuseable. Our windows are closed of course, but in listed period buildings there are plenty of vents and crannies for the stench to invade our flat. The whole of the flat was tainted with the smell, which lasts for hours. We did call the site manager to complain, and he said he would go over there straight away to make sure they were ventilating properly, and come to speak to us in 15 minutes. That was 3 hours ago. Typical consideration from these builders. Any time we have complained we have been fobbed off. I had asked that they varnish in the afternoon, so as not to inconvenience us first thing, but this was ignored along with everything else. Tavener is one construction company we will never ever use ourselves.
