Banking with ICICI is so tedious. You have to fill out so many forms, do numerous visits back and forth to the branch, submit the same documents again and again. There seems to be a lack of communication between the staff in the UK branches and those in India - because whatever documents you complete and submit here always seem to be inadequate. It is very frustrating and time-consuming.

As long as you need only basic banking operations from their online banking, it's fine. For example, you can view your account balance and transactions. But if you need a smooth banking experience, you might be in for a rough ride. My experience thus far: Half the times, clicking on their links will give you a "Provided URL is incorrect" and you will have to start the login process all over again (Aaarrrgghh). They say it's their security feature because you might have clicked on the same link twice!!! You have to keep chasing their customer service for everything as hardly anything is available on their internet banking. It took multiple calls and chasers to get my address and phone number changed, but to no avail as even after the phone number update, the OTPs and alerts continued to come on old phone number. When I contacted customer service, I was told that I have to make a separate request for the alerts!! What's the point of updating the phone number on an account if the alerts and OTPs keep flowing to old number. Then one can't update one's spending limits online. So, if you have to make an online purchase which exceeds your currently set limit, again you have to call customer service and wait for 2 business days!! And then if you call after 2 business days, the usual refrain is that they are really sorry that your request hasn't been completed and they will route the request to the right team, and you will have to wait for another 2 business days!! If you need to download your previous month's (say January) account statement for any reason, then you will have to wait till the 15th of this month (February) - In today's times of profound digitization, ICICI still believes in preparing statements manually and then uploading them to the portal Disclaimer: All the gotchas have been captured here as per my conversations with the customer service.

Took two visits and extremely long waits to open an account. No concern or respect for time scales. Made an appointment for 10 am and was seen at 11:15 am Was asked if I had a PAN card. I said no. They still proceeded with the tedious form filling. After a few days I was notified I cannot open an account without a PAN card! Why did they let me proceed? They advised Adarsh Soni would call me back but it still hasn't happened. I have tried several times but he is never available. The most appalling customer service from a bank ever. As no account was opened I obviously want my 300 refunded. I expect this refund by Friday this week or I will have no choice but to approach the Financial Ombudsman for independent advice.
