The Base Camp

If I was allowed to give 10 stars for a 5-star review for The Base Camp in Peterborough, I would! I came across this small family business recently while assessing old paraffin heaters on-line. Founded just under 40 years ago, I would not hesitate to say that The Base Camp must be country's premier stockists for all things to do with old paraffin heaters, oil lamps, paraffin stoves, etc. They even sell the very best quality paraffin and will deliver across, and up and down, the country. With good, old-fashioned service and advice, 'Mike the Stove' is a fountain of knowledge about these fascinating objects from years gone by. Mantels, glass covers, seals & washers,valves, new stock for Valor and Aladdin wicks, etc., The Base Camp can supply! I understand that as businesses up and down the country have closed in recent years, The Base Camp is usually able to acquire their stock before it is lost for ever. Since I was a lad (in the 1950s!) I have treasured my grandfather's pre-war Primus double-burner petrol stove. In the very early 1960s I remember writing writing to Primus, in Stockholm, enquiring if they still had spares. Primus didn't, of course, . . . . but The Base Camp in Peterborough still does! Was helping a friend restore an old Bialaddin 305 lamp, and this shop helped me source all the relevant parts, posted out quickly, and then were very patient at explaining over the phone where the final 2 tiny seals were to go! Highly recommend this shop if you need parts for old oil lamps, very reasonably priced and excellent service.

Hi it was a while ago that i tried to get my old hipolito 500 to work again but i tried in vain , finaly i contacted base camp & spoke to a very knowledgable man who sent me all the parts required to do the job plus spoke at length about how to set it up , i now have a fully working lamp , thank you base camp . Amazing broad selection of Primus stove spare parts - and so knowledgeable - can't rate them high enough. Took a great deal of care to ensure I got the right O-ring for my Primus Ergopump. They have a neat retro-website where can view items but need to order via telephone, email or post.
