Worth the drive to purchase plants not normally seen in mainstream garden centres May 4th, 2023

I came upon Langthorns quite by chance, around 6 years ago. I was frustrated by other garden centres in my area because they seemed more interested in playing to the weekend footfall who want to buy uninteresting, run-of-the-mill plants after having had a latte and a scone in their coffee shop. Langthorns is a plantery; it does plants; interesting plants; beautiful plants; unusual plants. Ed and his staff know their plants. Its what they do and they do it better than anyone at a price point which rivals or betters anyone in the vicinity. Since the day I stumbled upon them, I have acquired so many specimens. Some might say too many as I only have a modest space with which to work. But if I find a spare spot or one of my existing pre-Langthorns plants needs replacing, I know where Ill be heading (as I did at Easter, coming home with another three shrubs). I love all the plants I buy (admission: Im not totally loyal to them). But my Langthorns acquisitions are my favourites - whether its the unusual agapanthus quietly sunning itself in a corner of my front garden, or the two rare South American pink pampas plants (sold as offshoots from the mother plant growing by their lake) slowly taking over the deep pots which I bought specially for them, or my new yellow (yes, yellow - not your usual white or pink or purple variety) magnolia bought this Easter, or the red rose with the most amazing fragrance acquired in honour of my best friend in Australia, or the wattle I got in memory of her father - and our dearly missed friend - when he died two years ago. They are special, as are the other unmentioned dozens of specimens I have acquired from Langthorns. Quite simply, it isnt just my favourite place to find new and interesting plants to add to my (over)burgeoning collection - its one of my favourite places on earth because it showcases how beautiful and diverse flora and fauna are. I am so lucky to know that they are only a 20 minute drive away. Apr 28th, 2023

This is a lovely nursery with a very good range of plants. The nurseryman who helped us was extremely kind and helpful, he advised us on the damage our well established Choisya took this winter even though he lost a sale in doing so, didnt buy a replacement followed his advice on the pruning of existing plant. Thank you again. Apr 27th, 2023
