3 stars because it is closed for maintenance at the moment. Not easy to find this English Heritage site. Just a gate in a hedge and an overgrown path. Interesting, but a bit disappointed not to see inside.

Tiny ancient chapel truly hidden in the depths of rural Suffolk. Despite all the signage, St. James' Chapel somehow resists discovery, so isolated is it within country lanes that just seem to loop around into one another without sense of direction! No doubt worth the discovery of you do locate it, but the site seems to have become permanently, rather than 'temporarily closed'...

It would have helped if the surrounding signs told us it was closed. We took a special detour to see this place only to find it was closed, and looked to have been for some time.
