I was held as a prisoner in Claire ward and had no treatment whatsoever. I was taken in as it was thought I was self harming and kept there a month. They didn't tell me that on the second day I was there they had a letter from the hospital confirming my wounds were caused by MRSA not self inflicted but they didn't tell me . Any poor soul who is troubled enough to cut themselves should receive better treatment than I had . I. Was locked in a room for a month and was not allowed out the entire time I was there. Nobody spoke to me about anything but on my tribunal at day 15 the judge got a report that said on my daily chats with a nurse I had vented a desire to kill myself. I was not given my essential medication which caused me a lot of stress. I. Went without food, blankets.and did not get the medical attention I needed for infected wounds . The ward was run by a power crazed bully who was not qualified to prescribe drugs but did anyway. I saw terrible abuse of vulnerable people and complained to Lewisham health watch. An investigation began and 2 doctors walked out and the remaining one went sick. My complaint was upheld but I have no idea what improvements if any were made . The building itself is not fit for purpose and should be torn down and start fresh with qualified. Staff .The nurse that escorted me to a follow up medical visit to st Thbomas' hospital and slept most of the time could not read or write so how could he have passed any exams? Drugs distributed by an occupational therapist with a sadistic lust for bullying patients and staff . Manager who hides from her. Diagnosis reached based on 10min talk once a week by video link where you are spoken at and told what your symptoms are . Needs independent monitoring to prevent abuse of vulnerable people.. No therapy here. Just punishment and conditioning. Awful place , horrible staff. Went in with normal mental health , came our with many mental health issues

I saw a previous comment that said people should stop complaining about the service of this place. I had a loved one who was staying at one of the wards in this unit and the whole month she was there, NOT ONCE have they invited me to their ward round despite giving them my email address numerous of times. Every time I visit and ask the staff how my loved one is doing from their perspective, they always telling me I have to book an appointment to speak with the Doctor and thats their response all the time but I am directly involved in her care so why? So the last time I went to the ward, I was fuming because it seemed like the nurses were refusing to speak to me. When I finally spoke to the NIC and the other senior, they said they did not agree with the fact that I said my loved one mental state has not improved and kept saying she is doing well. HOWEVER!!! When I visit her, shes always having manic episodes, shouting and leaving the room after 5 minutes. I said to them How is it a WHOLE 1 MONTH and theres no changes? Why are you not encouraging her to come out of the room to participate in ward activities that will help with her mental state?. The staff started making excuses. Then I addressed the situation with not being invited to ward rounds in which they took my email address AGAIN. In the end, I was invited to ONE ward round out of the whole month she was there. Now she has moved to a different hospital and within a week that shes been in a new place, she sounds more lively and better and is actually having normal conversations with me. The environment is more brighter. The staff at the new place even made sure I got an invite to her first ward round and I am very happy that I am seeing better improvements than when she was in The Ladywell Unit. So, when people leave a negative review of their experience with ANY service, its not because people are haters. Its feedback that can be used to increase positive experiences for people who uses the service in the future and how they can train their staff to do better.
