The Anglican parish church of All Saints' dates back to at least Norman times and has been a Grade II* listed building since 1954. Major renovation of the 15th century tower was carried out in 1996 when seven of the eight gargoyles were replaced with replicas. These gargoyles represent opposites: Life and Death; Saint and the Devil; King and Queen; and, a Lion and a Man. I was also interested in the memorial affixed to the roof of the lychgate, at the entrance to the churchyard, dedicated to the memory of the villagers who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1919. The wall of the lychgate also bears a plaque in memory of the personnel based at Willian Airfield during those wartime years. I cant begin to imagine how dangerous it was to fly those flimsy aircraft during those early years of aviation, let alone during wartime. Lest we forget

Lovely church in the village of Willian giving some good photo opportunities. Unable to go in due to the ongoing Covid 19 virus.
