We stayed with 2 other couples celebrating a friends birthday. The location is absolutely beautiful, and the premium room was comfortable with a double bed. The room could have done with some TLC. The bedside tables were sticky and the teacups had tea stains. We had dinner booked through Secret Escapes and we had an allowance of 28 per person. The dinner menu was varied and reasonably priced. Unfortunately there was a wedding on the same day, which meant the hotel and restaurant was very busy. We ordered our starters and waited 45 min for it to be served. One starter didn't arrive, which took another 20 minutes to get to our table. We then had to wait another hour for our main meal. Some of us ordered steak, which was ok but one came without the tomatoes and one of us ordered the risotto, which was tasteless and the quality not something you would expect from a hotel of this level. We were already very late with receiving our food and did not complain about it at the time, knowing staff were already very busy. We ordered desert and the crumble had a savoury smell to it and no sweetness to it, not what you would expect from a desert. It felt like our order was missed and put together quickly only when we asked how much longer it would be before we got served. The restaurant and the bar could have done with more staff, especially knowing that they would be very busy with holding a wedding. We all felt very sorry for the restaurant staff, and at no stage was it their fault for us having to wait so long for our food. There were not enough staff which can only be blamed on poor management. The next day there were another 2 weddings booked!
