Stayed again at HIE Stirling last week, apparently now being managed by Atlas Hotels, & sub-contracted again to a Car Parking service. Staff & service were exemplary as always, recognising us as repeat guests & very welcoming & cheery throughout the stay, including for instance any maintenance/other staff encountered in the hotel. I do however take objection to the introduction of a 5 per night charge for car parking (now run by another 3rd party company), when the hotel is on a business park with plenty space, but requiring a car to access, & large sign at the entrance stating that residents " park at their own risk," so can only assume this is a blatant "profiteering exercise," as no additional service being offered to warrant such a charge. When taken into consideration with the overall cost, means their competitors now offer better value for money, something I'm sure the finance departments of companies who pay for their contractors stays will be taking into consideration when reviewing budgets, & is resulting in an additional 7% increase per night for leisure customers if they grab the best room rate offers, for no discernable benefit. As such, am very disappointed to only give 3* for this review, as it in no way reflects on the hard working staff at this hotel to whom I would give 5*, but IHG have gone off course with this one in not ensuring any sub contractors are providing the standard of service/value for money we've come to expect from IHG. Have discovered on our travels in recent years, especially in USA, that relying on international brands not just IHG, but likes of Accor, Sheraton, Hilton etc. and many others, means in no way now guarantees a standard of service we've come to expect, as individual properties have been franchised off to the detriment of standards & services, whilst still marketing themselves as part of a globally recognised brand. Can only hope IHG return very quickly to valuing their staff & properties who have made their hotels the venues of choice. as if this if the way forward, these companies are going to lose any loyalty not only from leisure customers such as myself, but also corporate contracts where it's blatantly obvious additional charges are just a profiteering exercise. Thank you to all staff at HIE Stirling for another very enjoyable 5* stay from yourselves, & hope your parent company start to value you all for the "above & beyond" service you provide whenever anyone stays with you all.
