I visited a 2 building property in Leicester for a job interview. The building it's self seemed run down and old. The pain was grubby and needed in my opinion a full refurbishment. I don't want to work somewhere like that.

Where to start. When I was first diagnosed 3 years ago, it was suggested by social services that I get support from an ASD specialist service. Naturally I called NAS and left a large number of phone calls just making 'enquiries' that went straight to voice mail and were never returned. In the last month or so I spotted some fundraisers in town and struck up a conversation with one. He confided in me that 70% of communication is not responded too... citing the reason of NAS not being a popular charity and limited on funds. The irony here though, is that I ended up getting support from a localised charity that NAS has snubbed because of 'taking potential clients away'... essentially bad mouthing other charities for picking up where NAS cannot. In addition to this, as part of my job it is my role to go onto mental health wards to advocate for those who are on sections. Patients (including myself in 4 prior admissions) with Autism can face large challenges and face being misdiagnosed by clinical staff with little training in autistic spectrum disorders. I have sent several emails to NAS asking if this is something that can be researched so as to elevate undue distress in the years to come..... but again, no response. However, I do seem to get a flood of emails asking for donations and to 'support NAS', which feels like a kick in the teeth when you're left feeling like a faceless 'member' that they can solicit.
