My father was resident for over three years. He didnt adjust at all well to being elderly/infirm, causing problems for both me and for care home staff. It wasnt possible for him to manage his own money, but he wouldnt grant a power of attorney this caused difficulties with payment of care home fees for two periods during his occupancy the second one arising due to the covid lockdown which prevented face-to face communication for 13.5 months. Remote communications were not possible due to his deafness/partial sight. During the first period of payment difficulties the proprietor showed some understanding/tolerance of my fathers issues. However after lockdown ended I complained about unauthorised disposal of an item of my father's property; the proprietors attitude abruptly changed and he embarked on bankruptcy proceedings, with no prior attempt to negotiate. The motive was clearly vindictive, since no action had been taken in the earlier period of payment difficulties when arrears had been greater. The proprietor also stated incorrectly that all property brought to the premises by residents was automatically his to dispose of whenever he likes! Overall this episode was an extremely stressful experience in particular in relation to dealing with the initiation of bankruptcy proceedings this care home is best avoided if you wish to avoid similar stress, or if you consider that care home residents should have a reasonable degree of autonomy over their possessions. I will also mention that my father persistently complained about the quality of food my impression on the occasions when I saw it was that it lacked sufficient fresh fruit, salad and identifiable fresh vegetable content. As a former Austrian refugee, my father preferred to drink lemon tea neither this care home nor the previous one in which he spent most of a year were apparently able to cater for this kind of individual preference.
