I am so happy to hear the place is closing down as they don't deserve people who work for them. I personally was lucky enough to have a good departament manager (at least the one that was in charge when I was leaving)... However the workplace is just a nightmare! As if working conditions weren't hard enough (noise, lack of daylight, working in a basement in cold and wet) you get bullies as team leaders who just do what they want with people. Blackmail, favouritism, verbal and even physical abuse, you name it... You get rudness as soon as you enter the front gate (what's funny, front gate guy isn't even Bakkavor employee). It seems that factory workers are just treated this way. It's so sad that people who "feed the nation" and do one of the worst jobs out there are so disrespected. I stood up against bullying and asked for protective gloves. Those who were willing to help me left the job including general director and health&safety executive. I guess they also gave up Bullies stayed where they were and when I asked for gloves I heard from HR that minor cuts won't kill me and they are reducing plastic. And then, the next day they are literally cleaning the floor with plastic wet wipes It's a place where you try to explain to your senior manager that 50 litres of liquid won't fit into 5 litre bucket and he's not getting it. At the same time he expects you to obey him, as he's your master. Incompetence is one thing, another is breaking the law where they can. Taking advantage of the fact that 90% of staff are foreigners that either don't know their rights or struggle with English. Bakkavor is shamelessly using it to meet their needs. You will get free ice cream/ fish&chips from time to time though to keep up appearances. Amount of plastic used and food waste is beyond compare and makes you sick. Most waste could have been avoided if the machines were fixed properly. Unfortunatelly, all the good engineers already left the place and you end up with agency workers. I could go on and on. I wish all good people the best in finding your new job. Anything will be better than Bakkavor. And for all those bullies-well, karma will take care of you. Most of you are not skilled enough to be a warehouse picker, so justice will be served.

I have 2 ukranian refugees living with myself under the homes for ukraine scheme. They both where very excited to start work and this company offered them a chance. Today they came back very disheartened by the news I have heard about them 1. So apparently you have to book a shift to work there... but that doesn't matter to some people and they will force you to travel there.. force you to pay and then give your shift to someone else who hasn't booked and then force you to pay to bring you back home. Therefore making them worse off 2. They make you work 11 hour shifts but only pay you for 8... last tike I checked this was against the law even on split shifts! They're basically exploiting vulnerable people and taking advantage of vulnerable people. And remember if you buy any of their products your no different to buying clothes made in a Chinese swear shop!
