The defining quality of Al Bamptons teaching method is that each lesson is customised to the student. I have had the privilege of being taught by Alasdair for seven years and, from day one, he took my mind into account to develop the most efficient and effective teaching strategy for me. While I have comfortably sat GCSE, A Level and ABRSM Theory exams with the resources and knowledge Al provided me with, I am mostly thankful to have been presented a learning environment in which I had total stylistic and creative freedom. Any unorthodox technique or wacky arrangement I would request was met always without qualm and with great attention to detail. My musical vision was always prioritised and that is why Al earned my respect from the get-go.

I trained under Al from around 1995 and I still class him as my tutor- not just in areas such as guitar and theory, but the important skills such as craftsmanship and performance. From day one, Al worked to my requirements and my schedule, broadening my musical landscape along the way. He ran showcase gigs for pupils, as a way to learn things such as sound engineering and performance. Above all, Al offered understanding and has a very matter of fact way of making complex things easy to understand. I was encouraged not only to develop myself as a musician, but as a person and for that I owe a lot to Al. In 2003 I toured professionally with The Dead Pets and have guested and supported many great acts such as Maha Dev (Quintessence), Alan Davey (Hawkwind), Chris Britton (The Troggs), The Fratellis, Senser, Shana Morrison (Van Morrisons Daughter), The Beat, The Damned and UK Subs (to name but a few). I grew and developed my craft alongside people such as Corinne Bailey Rae and Stateless, which was all made possible by Als enthusiasm and desire to make music accessible. I couldnt recommend highly enough and I couldnt put into words, how much value Al offers through his work.

I studied with Al for 8 years and during this time he taught me a range of skills including Guitar, Music Theory, Performance, Composition and Song-writing. Al helped me to become the musician that I wanted to be and also achieve my music qualifications. He differentiates his lessons to fit his students so that they learn what they are most interested to learn as well as all the fundamentals that may underpin this. Not only is Al a great musician and teacher but he also acts as a good role model and strives to help build students confidence and personal development through the joy of music. He has also created a community and a platform around his students, for them to perform at events which he runs within the local music scene, providing invaluable stage time which is often not available to younger aspiring musicians. What I have learned with Al, I have taken with me as skills and a passion which I will have for the rest of my life. I would whole heartedly recommend him to anyone who is considering learning music.

Al is a brilliant music teacher which is evident from the high standard of achievement that his pupils have gained. He is dedicated, supportive and observant; he tailors the lessons to your requirements, whether that be music theory, guitar, improvisation, etc. I have predominately had Al for music theory lessons for the past six years, progressing far quicker with his concise teaching, which covers each level and area of theory in great detail. This style of teaching I have found to be invaluable when learning for the graded exams. I doubt that any of his students would be as confident, accomplished or have achieved as much as we have without his unwavering support and expertise. I would recommend anyone, no matter what stage you are at, to have lessons with Al. You won't find anyone who is as committed, reliable, or a better teacher.
