Rooms: In terms of the accommodation itself, the hotel is modern, clean and well presented having gone through a renovation. Our room was one of three dog friendly rooms. We stayed in room 3. The room wasn't huge but comfortable and the staff made sure to provide our dog with a big bed and bowls. The bedroom itself has been refurbished with new interiors and a comfortable king sized bed. The rooms are well heated and our room had a door that opened on to the patio for easy access for our dog if needed. The bathroom however was original and older. It was well cleaned and the showerhead was powerful and there was plenty of hot water. I'd stay the only thing to point out about our room was that as it's part of the older part of the hotel building you can hear any noise from someone walking upstairs or through the corridor. So it's definitely not soundproof. It wasn't a huge issue for us however as we were able to sleep regardless. Nearby activities: We did the Tolkien Trail during our stay. We were lucky enough to have great sunny weather, which was ideal. Some parts of the trail were muddy due to the rain from previous days but it was a very pleasant 2.5-3 hour walk. Safety: Hotel has 24 reception and the area itself is well lit during the evening. Food & drinks: We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. For breakfast there was a choice of full English breakfast as well as continental plus other warm options like Eggs Benedict. For dinner we tried a variety of items: for starters we tried the duck pate & scallops for mains we had the linguine with crab, scallops & prawns, monkfish, cod, roast chicken & fillet steak. Dessert we tried the cheesecake and black forest gateau. We also had lunch here twice including the chicken schnitzel (my favourite meal here), foot long hot dog and couscous salad with prawns.
