My partner is well looked after in The Sands. He has Parkinson's Disease and Dementia and the Carers and Nurses do their very best for him, many going the extra mile. He had a bad time in hospital but the staff have helped him so much and he has done so much better in the 18 months that he has been in The Sands. I can't reconcile my experience with the people giving one star.

Wouldn't even give one star don't send you're family here unless you want them to be neglected and not fed properly , you'll get told on there phone the persons okay and the next day you'll get a phone call saying there dying , this isn't just me who's had this experience either but sadly not everyone can leave a review

My MIL who had Dementia was in RLI hospital due to a fall at home..they then arranged for a short stay in The Sands Meadows at Hest Bank as they didn't have enough beds ..the staff were lovely there but said that my MIL needed nursing care that they couldn't provide, so they sent her to their sister home, The Sands in Morecambe....before she left Hest Bank she could talk, was eating ok and drinking ok..3 weeks after going into The Sands and whilst awaiting the long begged for nursing assessments to be done she passed away. There were a couple of staff members there who were lovely, but the rest were agency workers who would just wheel the poor souls into a room and leave them there..It was the same each time we visited..no interaction, nothing to keep them entertained, just a radio blaring music out ..It was heartbreaking..People crying because they were scared or thirsty..all they needed was to be comforted and reassured but there was none forthcoming in fact my Partner sat and held the hand of a lovely lady who was crying and asking for help and was being ignored.he stayed with her until she fell asleep in her chair. I was holding the hand of another lady who was petrified. My MIL was on the 4th floor where there was a severe shortage of staff. We were called by a Dr and informed that my MIL was on end of life care.we couldn't believe it...We wanted her in her own home but was told by adult social care that her nursing assessments were to be done at the Sands ASAP Her social worker rang the home on the Friday to let them know that she would be visiting my mother on the Monday for a chat to see how she was..to which she was told by a staff member that she probably wouldn't get much out of her as she wasn't very well !!...The social worker then phoned me to let me know and I informed her that she was end of life care and she was so shocked that the home hadn't told her that. I told her to go ahead with her planned visit then she could see how things were herself...I also told her that she was that bad that she would be lucky if she was still with us by Monday. My MIL passed away on the Sunday morning before the visit took place. She didn't want to go into a home..we didn't put her there the hospital and adult social care did.If you have to place your loved one into a care setting for whatever reason, please do your research first..don't let the system push you around or fob you off ..find a place where they will be cared for like they were their own family and not somewhere where they are left alone.

This is by far one of the worst homes in the bay area! My Dad has been stuck there for two years in his room without a wheelchair. We have constantly requested one but have been rebuffed with lame excuses 'It is unsafe', even though my father finally got one last week. They removed it with this excuse even though he said there was nothing wrong with it. He has sustained physical abuse and neglect from nurses, in which they constantly ignore his requests in his room. The upper management are like SS Officers, dishing out punishments and abusing their powers. They have banned my mum because she tells the truth and have ignored my complaints. The upper manager called Tracey has dismissed my complaints and blamed my father for them stealing and damaging his personal properties, his personal neglect and not getting a wheelchair. They punish him because he isn't like the other patients who are easy to manipulate and abuse. They constantly attempt to stop my dad from seeing my mum. They are compulsive liars and are only interested in taking selfies and fooling the CQC. I would recommend nobody consider this place unless you don't care about your relatives.

A elderly friend of mine had a life changing stroke almost 2 years ago and the care she receives at The Sands has been above and beyond. They have even advanced their technology to improve their residence experiences.
