Generally incompetent builder. Really poor ability across the board. Plumbing is appalling care of CTS contractor Ray Crouch plumbing in Hurst Green. Endless leaks. Final straw was a leaking mains connection. The plumber who fixed it said Crouch had removed the grip ring and cylindrical seal from the mains coupler. Probably incompetence. Said we were hours away from the mains exploding. Insurance wouldn't have covered it as he'd attached swift fix to poly pipe. Dodgy gas fitting that didn't pass Gas Safe as well. The son of the owner has inherited the lack ability and his carpentry is dire. Shelves falling out of cupboards. Split wood. Unlevel engineered floor. The guy who was supposed to lay the floor for them couldn't do it because he went to prison during the build! Tiling is awful. Cracking up. These guys rely on counci building inspectors and engineers telling them what to do to pass building reg. Cost of repairing their work so far is around 3k with another 3k to go. Just down the road, so I use only in emergencies as they do cost extra. But we need local places like this

Had really bad experience with this builder with a small side return extension, new boiler , bathroom move and decking in the garden. Should have been easy. On the upside, building regs passed the new extension part (hence 2 stars). However when it came to things that building regulations don't cover it's an ongoing disaster. In 18 months we had: the new boiler condemned by Gas Safe (referred to HSE. The CTS sign-off engineer was investigated and penalised); overheating underfloor heating (70 degree water instead of 50) that blew boiler valves, popped new engineered wood floor, and led to Gas Safe involvement (1500 to install MISSING pump, regulator, electrical feed and replace wall); leaking new roof (due to missing lead apron work where extension meets the old building); new render falling off, ill fitting guttering and five leaks in new plumbing (including the mains connection) resulting in re-decoration, floor damage, kitchen unit damage and carpentry repair at around 1.3K costs so far. The new bathroom tile floor cracked up after 12 weeks (laid onto floating tongue and groove sheeting, not fully bonded, un-levelled and with a structural step built between joists and on top of tiles - see photos). Full suite, floor and cupboard fittings need removal with full refit, carpentry and tiling at cost of around 3K. Builder blocked my number when I addressed major issues early on. Had no contact since the Gas Safe Investigation. He refused a contract for the size of job, so little recourse. As with a lot of these disaster stories they came recommended by a neighbour. It's hard to get a builder at all in this area but from my experience they are best avoided.
