Spectacular stay with friends and family for the week! What a wonderful time we had. Such a beautiful setting perfectly situated. We felt so at home for our stay and our hosts were lovely. The kids loved playing in the beautiful woodland, great walks and views! We had some gorgeous meals in the surrounding areas too. We didn't want to leave! Cannot recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back. Thankyou Sarah and Claire. We are very grateful xxxxxxx

I stayed at this venue with some of my friends recently for a long weekend. The house is very large and pleasant. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and I hope to go again soon. I will give a breakdown of the pros and cons below. Pros: -Very spacious house with plenty of rooms -Great function room with a lot of space for activities -Very isolated (great for raucus evenings without fear of bothering other people) -Location is excellent if you like rambling and forest walking -Bathroom facilities are excellent and plentiful -Very nice working open fireplace in the sitting room and outdoor firepit -Despite the properties age (1899 build), we didn't find a single leak, and the rooms were comfortable and dry, and there were no odd smells. -Has wifi and even the phone signal was pretty good -Plenty of comfy seating Cons: -The house is right at the end of a long, narrow, steep road and can be quite tricky to drive to. The road is also used by walkers so you have to be very careful when going around corners. Not a huge issue, but the drive is certainly not for the faint of heart! -No instructions on how to use the cooking range, and a lot of the dials have been worn off with age. Again, not a huge issue, but I think it would be really great if the owner could repair this or at least provide some instructions on how to use it properly. Would have saved us a lot of time when cooking. General notes: -The house is quite a long walk from Ambleside, and is at the end of quite a steep road, so I would recommend buying food/supplies in bulk before you go, otherwise you'll be getting some excellent leg exercise.

Not great. Gravely needs updating. Felt like I was in The Shining. ***My Response to Skelghyll Estates Response*** Claire, I never said I stayed there two weeks ago. I stayed there within the last year. This was the FILTHIEST AirBNB property I have ever been to in my entire life and I was very shocked you thought this place was in a suitable state for people to stay in. There were so many shocking health and safety issues (especially in the gross kitchen). You said: "Perhaps you were looking for something more modern." Well, if that is your code for me expecting a CLEAN AirBNB with furniture and walls not being in rundown/filthy condition, then yes, I expect that standard. I do live in England and, in fact, I own an English home built in the early 1800's (not modern at all). When I travel around the country I look for cute old buildings to stay in rather than modern places that have no character. I've made a point to stay at other quaint and very old properties in The Lake District that have been around as long as your property and they were clean and not rundown like your property. I would be ashamed of myself if I rented a property like yours in that condition. I'm just gobsmacked / in complete shock someone would rent a property in this rundown condition.
