The College Valley is a favourite destination, a haven of peace and tranquility we have sought for many years. Part of the charm is no doubt due to the limiting of vehicular traffic. There is a little car park just south of Hethpool which, however, has become more popular during 2020 due to the ever increasing demand for beautiful country places to visit as foreign travel has become problematic There are interesting and challenging walks to be had in the surrounding hills which are populated with ancient hill forts and long distance footpaths. There is wildlife to be observed by the unobtrusive walker: we encountered an adder during our last visit. It is a wise option to watch where you are putting your feet as the snakes love to bask on the fringe of footpaths. I have seen and heard green woodpeckers which enjoy the habitat the Collingwood Oaks provide.
