Responsive and professional survey carried out for a property we have since purchased. Paul was friendly and responsive in any follow up queries we had. Very much recommended.

We were recommended Paul by a friend and his price was lower than others, but not the lowest. The survey was carried out in reasonable time and the report was available shortly after the survey date. It pointed out a few things we already noticed, such as windows requiring replacement. Sadly it didn't point out a lot of issues, since moving in we've found that a lintel needs replacing at the front of the house, something that was evident the day I moved in. two large cracks in the inside wall above the window and obvious signs of movement outside after taking a closer look. We have damp seeping in upstairs around the chimney, a damp meter test showed it was as high as the meter would go. A quick look in the attic has revealed one of the roof beams(?) is rotten and needs replacing, Paul completely missed this. Rising damp was evident the day we moved in on a wall at the centre of the house, again a meter test was off the scale. A fire that Paul misidentified as a gas fire and advised we had removed was clearly a plug-in electrical fire. The upstairs skirting board has signs of wood worm, we're yet to determine if this is an active infestation or historic. A room at the rear of the property has a large crack extending from one side of a ceiling all the way to the other side of the room then down a wall. The floor in the living room moves up and down when you walk on it (the floor is on joists). Unfortunately most of the points Paul raised in his survey as Condition 3 (Serious defects that require repair) have turned out to be non-issues, and points that were marked as condition 1 have turned out to be major problems that were missed out on the report. We are now faced with the extra cost of roof repairs (damp around chimney is due to this) lintel replacement, floor repair or replacement, damp proofing in the middle of the house and potentially some form of structural repair to deal with the issue in the rear bedroom of the house. Most of this wasn't mentioned in the survey report and many people told me before having a homebuyers survey not to bother and that it was a waste of money, I didn't listen to them and thought this was the right thing to do, sadly on this occasion I was wrong. I've not raised the issue with Paul directly because I don't see a recourse that can make this right, I've overpaid thousands on a property that clearly had bigger problems than the report mentions and Paul can't change that now.

Having been contacted by a fair few surveyors after running a search, it wasn't easy filtering the good from the bad. I did a little research on Paul Jackson and read some positive reviews. He was competitive on pricing and had availability within short period. On arrival, he was very friendly and polite. He got a little background on the property from myself and then cracked on with his inspection. He was very thorough with his checks and review of the property and put everything back as he found it afterwards. He gave me a verbal overview of what he'd found and what would need repair, what would need some further investigations and everything else that was fine in it's current condition. I then received the report very very quickly (within one day in fact) indeed. I wasn't expecting it to take up to a week (which still wouldn't have been an issue). However, the early issuing of it was great and the detail of the report was not compromised as a result. Very well written, easy to understand whilst being accurate and detailed. Both Paul and the office were a pleasure to deal with and the report was perfect. I cannot recommend his services enough and would not hesitate in the slightest in using them again for any future work....Brilliant.
