St James Church Sutton is a grade one listed building. A chapel has existed on this site since at least 1160. The present church was extensively rebuilt between 1347 and 13749, when it was consecrated to St James. The chancel is the only substantial stone building in the area, due to the fact there are no quarries nearby, all of the buildings in the area were made of locally produced bricks. The stone for the church was brought up the river hull by boat to stoneferry. The church is a beautiful building with some very nice stained glass windows. This church has been important to my family my mother was confirmed here, my parents married here. I was christened here, married here my children were christened here.
