Ive recently installed Liniar sliding patio doors that a customer had bought from a company using liniar profile. The doors were delivered with laminated glass, and on installation the glass cracked whilst carefully installing on Liniars glazing platforms, which are apparently fitter friendly at first we thought wed done something wrong, so we installed the second double glazed unit, and it happened again. The crack was caused by the glazing platforms which are supposed to help the glass move forward easily and compress onto the rubber seal. We contacted the suppliers who wouldnt take any responsibility and wanted to take the glass away to be inspected. That wasnt happening as theyd probably conveniently loose the evidence. So we contacted Liniars technical department They sent out their technical engineer from West Yorkshire who told us the glass was to tight to accommodate the liniar glazing platforms and the glass was shelling whilst moving across the packers / platforms, then cracking when compression was applied whilst fitting the glazing beads. He said he would put together a report with his findings We waited a few weeks then I sent the technical guy a message asking for an update, he didnt reply, a couple of weeks later I sent another message, he said hed passed it to head office whod passed it on to the company who manufactured the doors. Not sure why that happened as we asked for the report. Maybe they dont want to upset a one of their clients who might spend a lot of money with them. Anyway I contacted liniar for an explanation and asked for something back to back up our claims that the glass was too big and needed replacement units the correct size to accommodate the correct glazing platforms. I was told I couldnt have the report and given a YouTube link explaining how to install glass and what packers or platforms to use on liniar products. The video states its vital to use the correct platforms and clearly says that in the video and advises not to use substitute packers or platforms that will cause problems with drainage, leaving glass sat in water and most likely causing failure of double glazed units Given wrong advice by liniar experts Anyway an email I have from mark at liniar says use substitute packers, as long as you dont cover the drainage holes they should reduce the risk of causing problems with double glazed units. Im gonna post this all over social media for everyone to make up their own minds on my experience with liniar, definitely wont be using these products again Ive found a new supplier now, and the products are much better and more fitter friendly. Customer service from liniar is shocking in my experience.
