Had dinner with my partner here last night. Service from the staff was absolutely brilliant. They went out of their way to make sure we had an awesome dining experience. The food was generously portioned and spot on - totally faultless! Atmosphere was great too - nice selection of music playing, loud enough to enjoy but not too loud so as to be disruptive. Breakfast was a different story. Their coffee machine wasn't working, which, okay, not the end of the world and not necessarily anyone's fault but it does put a bit of a damper on things when you're so looking forward to that first cup. One of the toasters was only half working but still left operational because they "had to have it on" for some reason? My partner raised some concerns with member of service staff, asking for a refund, and the cook (who wasn't involved in the interaction) inappropriately chimed in with "Well if they've had breakfast they don't get a refund!" Which, yeah that statement is normally fair enough, but we hadn't had breakfast. My partner had only tried to do himself a piece of toast and got fed up, and I'd hadn't even picked anything up yet, so it was pretty out of order. I work in a customer facing role and so I don't feel it's unfair to say that you should never say anything to antagonise a customer, especially when they're already visibly agitated. So that was just needless. My partner was told by the manager that the beefeater can't issue the refund as we got breakfast through the hotel, so he went to hotel reception to get a refund for his brekkie (I still had mine and the food was really nice), and the hotel told him that the restaurant told them he'd already had his breakfast, which he hadn't. It wasn't until he mentioned that they have CCTV they can check that they conceded and gave him his refund. Probably not everyone's experience is going to be like this, but on this occasion, it did feel like the morning staff made things unnecessarily contentious and difficult. I'd still come here again if staying at the hotel, though. Just an unfortunate experience in the morning.
