My father was reticent to go into a home, but the carers and staff of St Phillip & St James were excellent, immediately made him feel comfortable, and he settled in well. His needs were very well looked after - the chef even cooked him a meal that reminded him of 'home' under my instructions! All his medication was administered efficiently, and the staff were extremely patient when my father became difficult and sometimes downright cantankerous. This is a very special home. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending it. Thank you to all the staff for making my father's final years as pleasant as possible. My Grandmother was unsure of leaving her independance behind and moving into a home. We found the home to be most accomadating, their level and understanding of person centred care approach was perfect. They encouraged Gran to have as much independance as possible. She loved the daily activities and made some lovely new friends at the home. Her room was clean, food looked nice.

My family has a long relationship with this care home. My grandmother lived here, my mother lived here and my aunt is a current resident. I cannot praise the staff and the management team enough. This is a very caring place where all the staff take an active interest in the welfare of all their residents. Several staff members were at the home when my grandmother was a resident many years ago, which speaks for itself. I feel lucky my relatives were able to live here and be looked after so well.

The Home staff are very caring and warm, but, unfortunately, the owner/management team are the polar opposite. My Mother was invited to stay at the Home with aged 93, with a diagnosis of mixed dementia. 17 months later we were summoned to a care review meeting in which they said she was too difficult to care for and gave her one months notice to leave. As this was my first indication of this situation, I asked why this was the first Id heard about it, the reply was that COVID had prevented them communicating the situation- despite my seeing my Mother on a regular basis. No reply was given to an email asking what about Zoom, Skype, or a phone call. The next week I was emailed requesting her forwarding Home and departure date and repeated updates of her notice period. Obviously finding a suitable Home takes time and serious consideration, irrespective of availability. My Mother died at the end of January. I was grateful that she never knew she was un-welcome at St Philip and St James and didnt have to go through the anxiety of a move to another home. The first email I received after her death was to ask me to return the tv wall attachment so they could use it for another resident. When I replied that we had bought it, I was asked for the purchase receipt. No condolences were offered until 3 weeks later, at the end of the accountants email detailing her final account. My advice to anyone wanting to stay here is- Dont get old and NEVER complain about ANYTHING.
