The cafe is really lovely but (and I feel bad for writing this but it needs said), the servers either have no training or don't care. There were three servers tht we encountered. One took out order, a second brought the drinks, a third brought the food, then the third came back with the bill. Our table was dirty (leftover food lying on it) and I asked for it to be cleaned to be forgotten. Twice. Tables around us were left with the dirty dishes and then when new customers came in, the servers seemed confused that the dirty dishes didn't belong to the new customers. It's a small cafe and although it had a steady flow of customers, there were still empty tables. I don't understand how the servers don't clear the table when the customer asks for the bill, or even just having assigned tables so each server can keep track of it. The cafe is also cramped and I do think that removing even just one table would make it easier for customers to walk through. Getting to the bathroom was an obstacle of navigating the chairs and hexagonal shaped tables jabbing you. The food was overpriced for what it is, a plain toastie costing over 7 is a bit much but we did visit for the Christmas market so maybe that's why. The food was OK but the coffee was not nice. Neither of us finished the drinks. The staff were all nice. Probably just run down after a busy weekend with Christmas shoppers but I do think he sevice needs looked at. The same table beside us twice had dirty dishes left and no one took responsibility for clearing it plus our table was left to us to clean.

It says on their website "the tea room was where townsfolk could go to relax and be waited on with scrumptious food and made to feel important. So the secret of the tea rooms success? Great customer service" That may be okay for the "townsfolk" ( I highly doubt it) but as a visitor we were made to not feel important or welcomed by staff as they were uninterested and unhelpful. As a family of five we were not allowed to bring an extra chair to the table so we had to sit separately. I'm not sure what the atmosphere others are referring too, we came over Christmas thinking it would have some sort of Christmas vibe but we're met with a very dull, silent, almost awkward place. The staff member asked to take our order as soon as we had sat down before we had a chance to look at the menu and when we said could we have a bit more time she rolled her eyes and walked away. From this experience I wouldn't recommend this place as it's quite unfriendly (also not dog friendly) there are better places in Keswick which have better food, are cheaper, have a better atmosphere and have way better customer service.
