We stayed at the Bridge House on the 5th night of our Dales Way adventure. It is a beautiful structure/home, formerly home of the railway station master, and complete with a quaint laneway to secret garden! Sheila was our host and was so kind and lovely to chat with. We hadn't made restaurant resos, and she not only recommended, but called in to make a reservation for us, at a delicious Mediterranean style restaurant- Corner- about a 10min walk away! Our room was one of the most spacious we had stayed in, and probably one of the more traditional ones (with the sink in the room itself), and an ensuite WC/shower. Tea/coffee and biscuits were provided in the room, as well as loads of reading material about the area, the walk, the history, etc. Breakfast was a generous full english (and the best coffee on the trip, the BF says)- selected from the menu the night before- and came with fascinating convos with Sheila about her own adventures, the Kendal and Cumbria. We were sad the conversation had to come to an end (we had a set taxi time to get back to the trailhead). Kendal and the Bridge House were both beautiful places to stop, and worth the diversion away from the trailhead in Burneside. In hindsight it would've been lovely to spend more time there, as the town- and the house itself- have a marvellous history, and I think so many more stories to share! Thank you, Sheila!
