Excellent school, rated "Outstanding" by OFSTED. If you don't want to take the word of the OFSTED inspectors, ask a parent of a young person that attends the school. The school motto is "Learn, Sparkle, and Shine", and it really comes across in the way the staff interact with both the children and their parents. There seems to be an energy and enthusiasm for both learning and the encouraging every child to maximise their potential. This is a church school with links to the nearby Farnworth St. John's (Church of England); however, the children are encouraged to understand and explore faiths of all varieties. The school offers a wide variety of extra activities after school, such as art, chess, computing, dance, and various sports. There is also a "breakfast club" which allows parents to drop-off children at 8am for a small charge. The staff encourage children to take on additional responsibilities, such as joining the school council, keeping the school tidy, or promoting technology within their class. A wide variety of visits (outside the school) take place each year, both far educational purposes and to enable the children to participate in the wider community. Sports day is a fitting climax to the school year, and the extra effort put in by the staff ensures that all the children (and parents) are kept busy as the class groups rotate through the multiple events taking place at the same time. This is a large (two-form-entry) school that recently extended their buildings, but does not loose any of the personal touch thanks to the dedicated head-teacher and her hard working staff team.
