I have used a Chapman FM120 flail mower since I purchased it new in 2014 and its been an excellent, reliable and efficient mower for my horse paddock, regularly used every year and following the first cut after the winter dealing with new growth of docks, thistles, nettles and coarse grass etc. Its very easy to set up and use behind my quad bike with a 50mm ball hitch. The heavy duty British design and manufacturing cannot be faulted as I have had no issues over the years and the Honda electric start engine is as powerful as the day I bought it and starts first time, every time. Ive just bought a replacement set of flail drive belts (a matched pair, replaced as just stretched with normal use and age) and again, the usual engine servicing parts and am pleasantly surprised and pleased at the competitive prices and the friendly, responsive and comprehensive after-sales service is second to none! Same day replies and shipment overnight! Ive seen a number of cheaper imports appear and disappear over the years at various Agri shows (and I did a comparison in 2014 before I purchased the FM) and I have still not seen any mower to compare to the Chapman especially for frame strength, features, quality of components and the build quality excels. In short, as is always the case when it comes to value for money, you get what you pay for. Well done and proud to support British manufacturing!

I recently purchased an RM150 tow-behind mower. The overall product itself I am very pleased with, however the throttle control is held onto the mower by using very cheap plumbing pipe clips. Following delivery I had been using it for just half an hour, and whilst running close to the edge of the paddock the throttle control was pulled off the machine by some brambles catching on the long cable. The control then went under the mower and was promptly chewed up. I spoke to Chapman and explained what had happened; they stated that it was not covered under warranty and that I would have to buy another new cable and throttle control for an eye watering 84, which again came with cheap pipe clips. This is a bad design as the throttle and cable needs additional means of securing, which I will be doing. The other niggling thing is that the fuel tank is very small (1.8 litres) and you need to carry additional fuel in a can. As I said the product is good but the design definitely needs these improvements, small but important, and without which I am somewhat disappointed with what is overall a great product, as well as the cost to replace the part.
