My grandma stayed in this care home, and it wasnt the best at all. when she was mobile and able to do things herself it was a good place for her, she had a good social life there and enjoyed many activities. However, near the end of her life, when she lost mobility, the care home and staff neglected her. They left her alone in her room in bed for hours at a time, she couldnt reach the emergency button or her water. They didnt even take her dentures out (which were supposed to be taken out and cleaned each day) and she ended up getting thrush in her mouth. What they did to my grandma was cruel and it makes me feel extremely sad to think about the way she must of felt at the end of her life and how lonely she was, due to covid the staff wouldnt even let us in to visit so she was effectively dying alone. Luckily, we complained and asked St Elizabeth hospice to help and consider taking her in. They assessed grandma and said the state she was in and the way she was being treated was awful, so they proceeded to take her into their care at the St Elizabeth hospice in Ipswich, which was brilliant. As soon as my grandma moved to the hospice from this horrible care home, even though she was at the end of her life and couldnt communicate properly, we could instantly tell that she was happier and calmer. She died in peace 2 days later, but Im so happy she didnt die at this care home, it gave me and my family a huge amount of relief knowing she died in a nice place where she was looked after well and treated like a real human being. So overall, this care home is okay for caring for the elderly but NOT end of life care. The end of life care is shocking - please dont leave anyone in here for end of life, its awful and heartbreaking.
