Ipswich town's former Great Eastern Railway Goods Station, or Top Yard as it was locally known, is now the province of the Freightliner co. The facility forbids any public access, but it's possible to glimpse activity through the gate & fence from the car park at the end of Gippeswyk Road. There's always something going on in Top Yard due to the mainline connection to Felixstowe Docks & Harwich/Parkeston, & beyond. Freightliner operate 22 goods trains per day from here, each one capable of pulling up to 60 TEU's (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). Passenger trains have no interest for me, but the Freightliners are always interesting, & now even more so that the operators' green/yellow livery is being given eye-catching makeovers. Since 2020 the revised orange/yellow/black livery locomotives known as 'tangerine machines' have become increasingly common on local mainlines. There's a one-off pink locomotive too (66-587), as well as liveries of other international freight train operators, such as the blue/white of Newell & Wright Transport, & red/white of Deutsche Bahn... "Hear the rush of the mighty engine, Hear the lonesome hobo's squall..."
