This lovely beachfront hotel is steeped in history dating back hundreds of years and has had some interesting and famous guests. We stayed in the Lady Hamilton room on the top floor, where Lady Hamilton is said to have stayed, next to Lord Nelson who is said to have stayed in the room next door. You will have to do some googling to understand the significance if you are not a history buff The large bay window in our room looked straight out onto the beach and harbour offering stunning views. The room was a good size with a large bed and an en suite with a large shower which worked perfectly (unlike some places I've stayed!). The hotel itself has no parking but there are several long stay car parks only a few steps away that are reasonably priced and you only have to pay up to 6pm. The hotel is on the beachfront and has an outdoor seating area overlooking the harbour. There is a lovely bar and restaurant onsite where food is served all day and there are lots of other bars, restaurants and shops only a short walk away. The town centre is also a short walk away and there are several attractions and lovely walks nearby. Ilfracombe itself was a little quiet, but we visited in mid April (2023) which is just before the season starts so some restaurants and shops were closed. There were plenty of places that were open however and I liked that it wasn't packed full of tourists as we were able to get tables when we walked into the hotel bar and other restaurants. Service in the hotel was fantastic and the staff were all very friendly, helpful and chatty. We will definitely visit again.
