I can appreciate that fishing is a sport, a game of chance and that you cant always catch something but this trip was not worth recommending to others. The skipper had little to no interest in us or any kind of enthusiasm for the two hours that we were on his boat. He didnt introduce himself or even discuss the basic safety requirements of being on the boat. Nobody was catching anything! This is when we need a little enthusiasm from the skipper or at least be on deck talking to us, instead he was in the cabin. The skipper told us that the water was a little too green, thats why we werent catching anything. I asked why we werent using bait instead of mackerel feathers and he said that he had questioned that decision but it would require different rods. We did move several times to try to find some fish but out of 11 people, we caught one under-sized mackerel. The skipper was questioned about his use of a fish finder but the person was brushed off. The skipper ended the trip by complaining about having to unblock the toilet, one of the few times that he actually spoke to us. Thoroughly underwhelming and definitely not worth doing.

Booked the boat with John for a 4 hour fishing trip yesterday! It was outstanding. We were a big group of all ages, Ted his crewman was brilliant. We managed to catch mackerel, dogfish, conger eels and 3 good sized tope (sharks!!!). It was the best days fishing we have ever had. Would highly recommend this charter.

Great day fishing. Skipper and deck-hand were fabulous. Lovely boat. All gear included and overall a brilliant experience.

Got to say, its the same as all the other 1 star reviews. A very poor overall experience. Kate was quite good with the booking and info on where to meet, but once on board it was the fishing was poor but the experience was worse. Im a keen angler, have done a lot of this style of charter and used to work as a deck hand for exactly this style of fishing. Sometimes the fishing is going to be rubbish and thats ok, but the rod, reels and tackle provided are pretty tired and there is very little coming from the crew. When the fishing is poor, that is EXACTLY the time to be able to make it an experience for your customers, fishing advice, stories, ENTHUSIASM. Oh and by the way, this is constructive criticism, a briefing at the beginning, with some tips on safety, what the plan is, what species might be caught, and maybe even introducing yourselves to your customers would go a long way and prevent so many 1 star reviews.

A disappointing afternoons reef fishing. We spent 2hrs pottering along the coast between Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. When we boarded the boat and asked the young crew person what sort of fish we can expect to catch and his reply was, um um some, which left us with little confidence. We didnt get any greeting from the captain nor a briefing on safety, which we found unusual. We got a brief instruction on which knob flick to drop the line and for 6 seconds and if we hit the bottom to wind it up 10x. When my mate and I saw the equipment, we were disappointed. As we were on a reef fishing charter we were expecting to be using bait instead we were using tired mackerel feathers. We werent surprised no one even had a bite. The captain and crew were fine and we did try numerous spots. They were operating continuously through the day taking one charter after another without a break. But as tired and hardworking as they are, we expect chat and a welcome from the captain and better quality equipment and for a reef fishing charter we actually use some bait to catch the different fish we can expect to catch on a reef.
