Over the past ten years or so, I have seen Gethin looking after our animals and other people's animals and had ample opportunity to make comparisons with other vets. In an emergency, he is calm, skilful and compassionate. He does not oppress owners with suggestions that they should do major work such as MRIs of minor sprains; pointless blood tests etc - neither does he oppress animals by suggesting horses should go on long periods of box rest when this is clearly going to leave them mentally unfit and confer no clear-cut physical benefit. He rarely expresses a didactic opinion but when asked, he will give clear guidance in difficult decisions. This is exactly what people need from a vet. He treats a sick elderly mongrel as kindly and meticulously as he does a smart dressage horse or Grade A.
