We stayed here in 2010, and had not any bad issues during our stay. The room was very tiny, but who cares, as we were the whole time outside and came only to rest. And it is very near to Hide Park and all the public transportations and the price was fair. We mostly get everywhere by foot. We liked the breakfast, it was a typical English breakfast and tasted great. The neighbourhood was lovely.

Came to meet a guest downstairs to pick up donations as they were moving out of their room here. I was dressed modestly and waited by the door in noone's way. The way the security guard ran outside with a smirk on his face asking me why I was standing there. I was already uncomfortable as this hotel and several other corners on Sussex Gardens always have corner women working at night, it is very obvious as the cars pull up. To assume that I was one and to continue talking to me as if I was and he came in and out to stand and watch me 3 times.... Even though he saw me interacting with the guest and he could see I was only taking donations.

Location was convenient and this was definitely one of the cheapest places we could find to stay near Central London. We arrived well before check-in and were able to leave our bags at the hotel until check-in time. The staff were pleasant. The lobby had an off-putting vibe - there was a security guard guarding the bathrooms and it looked like there was an office space created in the main area. Our room, which was like a suite or apartment, did not have air conditioning or fans. It looked like it was being maintained by a DIYer - the floors were in rough shape and there was some sort of exposed electric panel. The wifi was nearly unusable as the signal was so weak and intermittent. When we arrived no one told us we would need to flip a switch to turn on the refrigerator so we had to throw out some food we put in there. A week before our stay they let us know they would not be offering breakfast service but would instead offer grab-and-go breakfast bags. This was fine except that after the first day they ran out of juice and gave my children coffee drinks. For most of the night we could hear folks from the neighborhood hanging out in the parking lots. It was loud - there were kids crying and at one point we heard a man get attacked by a dog. I guess we got what we paid for - it was still expensive by my standards but not by London standards. I don't think I would stay there again, but it didn't spoil our trip to London.
