Shen Chi Do Karate

Five years ago I took my 10 yr old son to Shen Chi Do as I was looking for a way to build his self confidence and make him feel less apprehensive about starting high school. The classes, under the excellent guidance of Lee Mantell were invaluable and helped my son develop into the confident and self-assured teenager he is today. After a year of him beginning classes, I decided to join in as a way of keeping fit and, despite the fact that I could barely finish the warm-up at the start of my training, I am hoping to take my black belt grading shortly - which only goes to show that you are never too old to learn something new! My daughter started training at 5 years old and the self-defense aspect of the lessons makes me feel more confident about her being able to deal with real life situations as she grows up. Every lesson is filled with a variety of elements from patterns to kicks to sparring and weaponry which keeps your interest level up. I would thoroughly recommend this class to anyone with an interest in martial arts or those parents looking to instill confidence and discipline in their children

Myself and my son have been training at Wodson park Shen Chi Do for over 18 months under Lee Mantel and can honestly say we have the best time while there training Wednesday and Friday evenings (doing both evenings are not compulsory but all training helps) even at my age :) All ages are made to feel very welcome, once you start to go through the grades things get a lot more interesting with different kicks and styles of fighting are taught.
