Wodencroft Holiday Cottages & B&B with Private Fishing

This is an absolute gem of a place, and you couldn't wish to meet two nicer people than Debbie and Ted who run it. The cottage was very comfortable, and the tranquility of the farm setting was lovely. I was there on a fishing holiday, and having a big stretch of the river Tees on my backdoor, free of charge, as well as free access to Cow Green reservoir, for which a ticket can be issued by Debbie and Ted, was wonderful. I managed to catch some fish as a relative novice, helped by the advice I got from Stuart Wardle of the Durham Angling Society, and being able to walk back afterwards and relax in the garden with a view across the fields in the sunset was good for the soul. And Debbie's lemon drizzle and chocolate cake - wow! If you are not fishing, there is plenty to do in the nearby area, with walks to High Force waterfall, or the Wednesday market at Barnard Castle just a 10 minute drive away. The fish and chips from Middleton-on-Tees are also very good. I can't speak more highly of Wodencroft other than to say it was a great place to be, and we will be going back. It's a little piece of heaven, and very reasonably priced too. Marvellous.
