I dont normally leave reviews but im quite upset about my experience just now. I live quite near this place and often nip over with my 2 sons for a quick dinner treat after a days work as its reasonably priced. Its gone downhill recently. For the 3rd visit in a row they didn't have much available on the menu. They didnt have what my son wanted so we went with something we have had many times which both my sons love. It has always come out with a spicy sauce on the side but this time it was over the food. My youngest always left this bit but loved the rest. It had never been served like this in the 20 times or so we have ordered it. This time he just couldn't eat it because it was too hot and covered in the sauce.. I politely spoke to the supervisor who scowled at me and said nothing other than the kitchen manager said it was always served like that. This isn't true at all and I felt accused of lying. They wouldn't let me order the same again without the sauce and so we went for a burger. They even tried to convince me to have 2 as it was buy one get one free but I said it would be a waste and I'd pay for 1 burger or the chicken and I'd take the free burger. I just wanted them to be quick so my son could eat. 30 mins later I asked where it was and they checked and it had only just been put on the grill. I had felt this would happen as they were rude and dismissive and seemed like they didn't care about helping the situation. We left with my son not having eaten a meal. The only saving grace was a young waiter lad who was apologetic and sweet when I paid for what I had. Which given the whole experience was too much. Still I paid and told the lad how helpful he had been. Then the supervisor who had been rude said "what about me" when she had not been helpful at all. It was very much a sarcastic dig. Its so close and easy to where i live but neither myself or my children want to go back again. I have spent a lot of time and money there. Not how u expect to be treated. The 2 stars is purely for the nice lad.

Drove all the way from Crawley only to be told they have no tables available. Such a disappointment. *Update* Just for a bit more clarity between myself and my mother, we rang four times and not once was the phone answered.

As the only pub in the Holbrook area, it's little surprise that Sussex Barn is busy on a Friday night. However, it's a bit soulless inside and the staff seem totally clueless. As it's part of a chain, I doubt there's much that can be done to make it more homely, but I don't find it a particularly inspiring environment.
