The shower in one of the ensuite bathrooms was cold (my Mum had two cold showers before a plumber came out and fixed it); the kitchen cupboards hadnt been cleaned when we arrived and there was a dirty baby spoon in one of them and the eggs we had been left were a week out of date. Thankfully, the host resolved these issues but they still had a negative impact on our experience.
The biggest issue was with the underfloor heating the host has locked the thermostat which prevents guests from controlling the temperature. The property is south facing and has floor to ceiling glass windows and doors and so gets very hot during the day (and it was only 13 degrees outside when we were there in April!). This meant in the evening it was 26 degrees with no way of cooling it down. I asked the host to help and she said she couldnt do anything. The only option was to open the living room window, but the window cant be left on a latch so it was wide open with cold air blasting in, even though the rest of the room was like a sauna. My Mum is 76 and has arthritis in her neck and it gets painful when the cold gets into it so she was deeply uncomfortable especially as there is only one window and it is right next to the sofa. Even after 2 hours with the window open, the temperature only dropped to 23.8 which is still too hot. The issue was made worse by the fact that the time was wrong on the thermostat and so the heating didnt go off until 9pm in the evening (it should have gone off at 8pm).
My biggest disappointment of all is that when I raised these issues with the host and asked for a partial refund of 50 per night (we had paid 250 per night), she refused. I explained about my Mums arthritis and how uncomfortable shed been with the window wide open and cold air coming in, as well as explaining that even though the other issues had been resolved, it still negatively impacts on your holiday when you have to spend time raising 4 different issues and trying to get them fixed. Sadly, the host showed no empathy and refused us any money back which I strongly feel is not fair or reasonable.
My advice to other travellers think very carefully before booking the Cart Shed. You will have no control over the indoor temperature and the host will not be willing to compensate you if you do encounter any issues.
