A beach of two halves. The result of historic coal waste dumping into the sea. Nature is slowly taking over, The sea slowly eroding the waste revealing clean sand. Dog poo and bags were strewn everywhere!

If you like a quiet but accessible beach, Horden is ideal. About 2 miles of pebble beach, best visited at low tide when the wide sand is exposed. Back from the beach is a long and wide gravelly walk if you don't want to walk on the pebbles. Great for dogs. On our first visit we saw a huge seal sunbathing. No facilities at all, just a small car park.

I know a few haven't been impressed with this beach. It's true. It's not a beach for sunbathing. But it's perfect for getting away from people...quiet days with your dog. Its muddy, rocky and clay-ey...and it's my favourite beach around.
