As a person who has worked for a a few Large Companies such as Harrods. I'm afraid to say that the training that I was provided was very unprofessional. I worked within the IT department and that's a key area to be proficient in within any business. This company lacked alot of things which if was present, would most certainly have been the best working environment that I would have ever been in so far in my journey. It's a shame because I had high expectations about this company and was let down on my first day. I was dumped next to someone and had the worst training experience ever. Everything was all over the place, no structure at all and no processes in place what so ever. It was all sporadic and off the top of the head kind of experience. Luckily I have experience and find it easy to delve into any companies environment, that's just something I excel at. However I feel really sorry for all those new employees who don't have any experience at all and the fact that they have to experience something like this in one of their first ever IT roles. The office space definitely needs a revamp, I get early 2000s vibes going on in there and feel so outdated. Considering this is a construction company, that should have been more invested in. I experienced so many issues with various outdated applications that the company uses to manage all its processes and etc. The service management software looks like something you would find on Windows XP and has so many bugs that it effects your workload and slows you down heavily. This company has so many different sites, I found that the network setups in alot of these sites were done without IT giving much thought to the bigger picture. I spent alot of time messing around on users machines due to network related issues and unfortunately things like this (many more) really limited the time that I had throughout my day to focus on other things and gain more knowledge in other areas. I think the people who are running this company really need to sit down with managers and etc and really understand what's going on in the business, because I can certainly say there is much work to do here that I can almost guarantee the work will never be near to being done in any shape or form. The progression paths in this Companies IT department is very narrow. I have seen many employees spending anywhere between 3 - 5 years just to smell a little promotion up the ladder a notch. The employees however are very nice and I felt valued there, that's something which is very hard to find. I wish the IT department the best of luck, because they are most certainly going to need it.
