I recently visited the war memorial in Hitchin with my family and was extremely disappointed with the experience. Not only was the memorial itself poorly maintained and unimpressive, but my son tragically lost his life due to a horrible accident. As we walked around the memorial, it was clear that it had not been properly cared for in quite some time. The grass was overgrown and the plaque honoring the fallen soldiers was covered in dirt and grime. It was a completely disrespectful and dishonorable way to honor those who had given their lives for our country. But the worst part of the visit was when my son accidentally fell and impaled himself on one of the sharp metal spikes that adorned the memorial. It was a terrible and tragic accident that could have easily been avoided if the memorial had been properly maintained. I would not recommend visiting this war memorial to anyone, as it is not only poorly maintained but also dangerous. It is a shame that such a significant part of our history is being neglected and disrespected in this way.
