Bill was super helpful and really organised - he gave me an initial quote quickly over text and then confirmed in person shortly after. He fit us in for an urgent repair to our ceiling within a week, which is unparalleled in this environment where most builders are quoting 3-6 months to me. The work done by Bill and Zane was efficient and to a really high quality. Would highly recommend them to anyone and will always keep them in mind for any further work I need. Really great work from Bill and Zane on my house. It had a botched garage conversion without building regulations. Bill worked with building control to put everything right before doing a fantastic job changing all the internal doors and fitting a fantastic wooden floor thought the downstairs. They really paid attention to detail- making sure every bit was as good as it could be to deliver a fantastic finish throughout and transforming my house.

Bill and Zane performed a fantastic job. This was not an easy project as there was a lot of aspects to consider. Bill managed the process of fitting a new roof, the removal of a chimney breast across 2 floors and the removal of a structural internal wall, with supporting steel beams inserted to compensate for the changes in loading. The house is a 3 bed semi detached Victorian property. Throughout the process, communication was proactive from Bill, he gave us options at the various forks / complications that we encountered and and went the extra mile to make sure the finished product would be as good as possible, thinking ahead for the future and avoiding shortcuts just because they'd be easier. An example of the latter point was altering our kitchen's plumbing pipework slightly in order to allow another 7-8 inches of head height. Along the way, Bill sort out a skip, re-consulting with structural engineers, masonry, plastering, plumbing, gas safety and probably more. He's clearly passionate about what he does and takes pride in his work and his team did their best to help clean up on what was a messy job on a confined site. We will be using him and his team again. Thank you to all of you. Sam & Florence UPDATE: We have engaged Bill and his team to carry out complex renovation work on our house in Hitchin for a second time, starting in September 2021 This project has involved stripping of the kitchen and dining room, installing fire proof board where necessary, installing steels, taking down an old lean-to single story extension and rebuilding with the old bricks, while increasing the ceiling height, with a new parapet roof and associated drainage. He has also removed old windows for us ready to bring in new crittal / steel windows and doors. Bill's punctuality, reliability, attention to detail, planning, and communication have all been really good as per last time. He leaves the site as organised and tidy as is reasonably possible at the end of the work day. Bill has also worked alongside our chosen contractors and building control for certain parts of the job, and as always, Bill has communicated risks and opportunities that effect the job's outcome along the way.

Bill recently converted our old garage into 2 home offices. He was professional, courteous and communicative throughout the process, and the work was completed in a decent time and as quoted. The specialists he hired (electrician, roofers, bricklayers, asbestos removal people, window fitters) were also very professional and courteous. Bill's employee Zane was also very pleasant, polite and hard working. We would gladly have Lakes carpentry and builders back to quote for our next building project.
