Hitchin Garden Centre

The staff here have not a clue what house plant is toxic to animals, I went to try buy a indoor plant, I have a cat, although helpful, not knowledgeable on what plants are animal safe. Very concerning.

I was not impressed. They DO NOT give REFUNDS for anything you buy here, then point to an essay stuck on the counter. At point of sale they do not tell you you only get credit if you return something, and I was told in a stroppy way when I tried to return a pot. A lot of plants but many are overpriced and you can buy cheaper elsewhere. I wont be going back.

Good plant selection and lovely friendly lady on the till, but as they are currently having work done at the entrance area. We found it very difficult to safely get my father-in-law and is walker around the space without having to move empty trolleys. Most of the time, I was trying to manoeuvre my own trolley and help him and his walker around. I even saw a member of staff watching my 85 year old father in law get caught on a traffic type cone and not stop him or offer to assist him. I have been a customer here for many years and love visiting at Christmas, but i really think they need to think about the safety of their older, more frail customers while the work is being carried out.

Undergoing renovation work may 2023 so a bit chaotic. An excellent selection of plants and very reasonably priced. A selection of soils and garden aggregates at the entrance. Nice selection of things for the garden and a few gifts and garden furniture. There is a cafe which does allow dogs in. Public toilets available. Free parking out front.
