My husband and I tried to pay the bill with 3 cards, all with enough balance and in all attempts it was wrong. The waiter very matter-of-factly suggested that I withdraw money from the cashier across the street. I cashed and paid, but soon after we decided to test our cards at another establishment and what was our surprise when the attendant told me that this Italian restaurant is known for "forcing" people to pay in cash so as not to incur a card fee. And of course, my card worked perfectly afterwards as it had everywhere I went from Paris to London. Only in this place did the card mysteriously "fail".
