Having trained under head coach Dr. John Titchen for around ten years I can truly say that DART (practical Karate) is by far the best self defence classes you can take. Whether you're a total beginner or have been practicing martial arts for years I highly recommend it. Every move has been tried, tested and eventually perfected in order to be the most practical application. John expects his students to not only be competent on the physical side of the martial art but also understand the limits of the law, this is reflected in his grading system which requires students to pass written exams as well as physical ones, you really feel like you've worked hard for the belt and it's not just handed to you after the requisite hours. Throughout the year John holds simulation training days where you're put in body armour and given controlled scenarios in which you have the opportunity to test your psychological and physical skill set. The debrief after each scenario set is invaluable. DART is for anyone who wants to push themselves, for anyone who's been interested in self defence even for anyone who just wants to improve their fitness.

If your looking for practical applications to your kata John Titchen is a great teacher, his mix of traditional kata, his own flow system and the use of body mechanics leads to an insightful use of techniques. The club is very welcoming and everyone there is very friendly. I always look forward to training there when I can.

I have greatly enjoyed my time at DART and hope to continue training as much as I can. This practical karate has been my primary form of exercise for some time and the thought of a good training session is one of the few things that motivates me to get off the sofa. Besides from it being fun and good for you, the knowledge I've gained at DART has helped me feel more confident as a person and before long I found my power level was well over nine thousand.

DART Karate provides safe, fun and effective self protection classes. I have trained with some great people and have learned loads in the five years I have been training.

I enrolled my two sons to Dart Karate to help my boys gain self confidence and techniques to defend themselves .My sons are now very confident, they carry themselves differently and John gives them all the support and encouragement they need to progress through the different stages of the Dart Karate curriculum . They really enjoy the simulation days as they put into practice what they have been taught, every lesson is different and I wouldn't hesitate to to recommend Dart Karate , John is a very positive role model.
