upon arrival strong smell of cigarette smoke at entrance, dog in cage which alarmed me as my daughter has a dog phobia, upon entering tearoom further two dogs being fed at table by their owners -again this concerned me as my pregnant daughter was quite scared. Upon being seated there were cobwebs on the window sills with dead flies, very unhygienic. the server did not have an apron and a young girl hung the serving area. the owner touched the dogs then proceeded to serve cakes to us of which we did not eat. cakes were ok but more shocking was lack of warm scones. Very dry and clotted cream was runny - not at all enjoyable. We have had afternoon teas all over the world and for a stately home this was outright most disappointing, The hygiene was what I could not get over. For the price it was extremely poor service and I would much prefer to have afternoon tea in chester of noted establishment. overall experience very poor - would most certainly not be returning. I just noticed that it was newly reopened and my first overall impression was not good - also the cost at 19.99 per person not cheap. We ended up taking cakes home but the server must have realised the cakes were pretty much untouched. mrs khan

I got married here last Friday. It was the most amazing place to get married. Fantastic views of the country side, a Palladian entrance and staircase, and the most amazing collection of paintings inside, including John Martin and Turner. Not to be missed if around Knutsford, and visit the team room and chapel for an extra treat, amazing food there!!!
