Mum was a resident in Close House for 6 months until we, sadly, lost her in July 2022. She was 99. During her stay at Close House she was looked after tirelessly by caring and attentive staff. Dave Cook, the manager, made our visits as convenient as he could given the Covid regulations that have caused so much distress to residents at a time when they needed family support the most. Mum took it all in her stride.in her long life shed seen worse! She was comfortable in Close House and always spoke well of the carers, kitchen and nursing staff who worked as a team, well managed by Dave. Its a rural location, quiet and peaceful. Furnishings may not be the smartest compared with more modern Nursing Homes, but its the care that matters and Close House really does care for its residents.

Not sure where to start, I find it difficult to express how grateful we are to everyone at Close House. The process in choosing a care home for someone you love is so very difficult, but from the very first enquiry phone call we made to them we felt confident and reassured. Dad was welcomed so warmly and so were we, they understood that we needed that too. Dad was only in the care of the exceptional staff for a short time before sadly passing away. During that time he was treated with care, compassion, dignity and at times a dash of humour which is sometimes undoubtedly needed. The staff treated us like family and helped us through the very worst of times, their care didn't just extend to Dad but to us too which we will be forever grateful for. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Close House.

My Aunt is 92 and very frail. She lived at Close House for 18 months and did not have the happiest of experiences there. When she arrived she was promised a room with an en-suite but was not provided with one even though several became vacant during her time there. Some nursing staff were not up to date with changing visiting regulations e.g. when a family member requested Essential Caregiver status, they denied such a role existed. Management were obstructive and intimidating. Simple concerns were treated as problematic. When we raised a particular concern it resulted in my Aunt being served four weeks' notice. A request for a copy of the complaint policy was ignored. Moving again at her age caused her immense distress and had a negative impact on her declining health. She felt degraded by her experience. We are grateful for individual carers who showed kindness, but sadly, we would not recommend this nursing home.

In reply to the previous post, I don't know if you're a failed disgruntled ex-employee, but I can honestly say that in the year I have worked at Close House, I've found the team to be as good as I've worked with in 29 years as a nurse. I pride myself in ensuring the care given is of the highest standard that we can possibly give and I have felt extremely well supported by my management team, including them finding me somewhere to stay when I couldn't go home, due to a Covid scare. Anyone else reading these reviews, please get in touch with me or any of the team at Close House, to really discuss what it is like to work or be supported here.

The original review here has been brought to my attention. As a retired Health Care Professional who worked at Close House for 15 years I can confidently refute the rubbish written by the reviewer whose surname is an anagram of shame! The reviewer should be ashamed of leaving such blatant fiction. The previous reviewer Dave Cook is probably right in thinking that a disgruntled ex member of staff is responsible for trying to damage the good name of Close House. I have always found that the home has very high standards of care and the management team are caring and very experienced at running a first class nursing home which has been in the same family for over 50 years. Ask why the bed occupancy levels each year are close to 100%. Ask why several GPs chose Close House for their parents when they required residential and nursing care.
