Really relaxed atmosphere in this bar/cafe, thanks to the young, chatty staff. Live music on some Fridays and reasonably priced drinks. Recommended

I go to Hexham two or three times a week. Went to this place yesterday at around 3.30pm. Four tables were occupied. The waiter walked past me 3 times without even so much as an acknowledgement. I might as well have been invisible. After 10 minutes I left and went to the excellent Beaumont where I was served within 1 minute. It's easy to lose a customer. And difficult to gain one.

Visited here on Sunday. Honestly was shocked by the hygiene of the staff. This started when I saw the girl behind the counter reach over onto a customer's plate (that was getting ready to be took to the customer) and eat a piece of lettuce off it...she didn't wash her hands and was consistently touching her hair. The two staff behind the counter (a girl and boy) both had normal extremely casual slouchy clothes on - it just looked unprofessional..no uniform, no aprons, no covid safety procedure. The girl had numerous bangles and rings on (working in the food industry previously I know this to be unhygienic) the boy ate a packet of crisps behind the counter and was drinking his can of coke...it all looked very unprofessional. I would of complained but honestly was worried what might happen to my food that was getting made out back and they all looked like mates so didn't think it would be took seriously...when my food came out it was a basic tuna sandwich but I was already put off by the two behind the counter. This is my first negative review anywhere but I really felt strongly about reviewing this as we are still in a pandemic and it's costing businesses a lot of money to stay covid secure so I was shocked at the staff letting it down.
