We commissioned Rupert Hilton at Oxley Conservation to do a full survey of a Grade II listed house we wish to buy in Oxford. His work was outstanding. The report was completed in a timely manner, in plain English and with a lot of very instructive photos. He also uncovered some important issues which are particularly significant when buying listed buildings and the need to ensure that all the planning and listed building consents are in place.

Oxley Conservation were highly recommended to help secure planning for two Surrey barns I had bought. I have been working closely with Rupert Hilton over the past few months and the condition and repair schedules that he has prepared have been invaluable. I will look forward to working with Oxley Conservation as the project moves forward and would highly recommend them. David Banfield

When a part of the ceiling in the Fairhaven United Reformed Church (The White Church) Hall collapsed five weeks ago we were extremely fortunate to be able to call on the services of Oxley Conservation Ltd in the form of Rupert Hilton MCIOB, AssocRICS, MScCHE, BA (Hons) of Oxley's, to deal with this very important issue. Although based in Henley-on-Thames Rupert Hilton was able to organise a tower scaffold and a Master Lime Plasterer to be on site at Lytham St Annes within 4 days of being asked to carry this work out. He was therefore able to make this vital inspection within 9 days of being told of the collapse of the ceiling. His inspection was extremely rigorous. They exposed and cleaned out the ceiling in the collapsed area discovering two rafter ends suffering from dry rot (Serpula Lacrymans) which was active. They explored other areas of the ceiling to see if the dry rot had spread further to the fabric. Fortunately it had not. Rupert measured the moisture content of the timber and photographed the damage which helped us to understand the nature of our problems. The report is concise, easy to understand and extremely thorough. The recommendations are very sensible and made with an understanding of the Church's financial position. The urgency with which Oxley Conservation came to our aid is so very much appreciated by the Church family, Synod and LBAC as any delay would have seen the situation deteriorate. I have personally found Rupert Hilton a joy to work with as his knowledge of his profession is exceeded only by his enthusiasm for it, which is infectious. I would highly recommend Oxley Conservation Ltd to anyone who has problems, however large or small, with Historic/Heritage Buildings.
