I have had to use the food bank 3 times now I would have gone a lot sooner if Id known how lovely they are me and my daughter are vegan and they give us some really great food and ingredients even some vegan treats. I felt to ashamed asking for help but since covid everything has changed I was on the list of the most vulnerable we had to stay indoors for almost a year during that time every Friday there would be 3 massive boxes of food/toiletries/cleaning products/tea/coffee everything you need to feed you for a week we never ever found out who they were and after covid shielding ended they sent a final package inside there were hats scarfs gloves blankets treat and they were vegan all I know about them is what it said on the box acts of kindness it really helped us so much I was crying at how lovely they had been to us I had to go onto UC in august and they told me to use the food bank I was nope no way Id rather starve then everyone think Im a beggar then I heard what i just said and I felt gutted with myself Ive been homeless and had to beg for food I always used to get something to eat for anyone I see in town who were homeless and I never looked at them as beggars or ponces which is what Id been calling myself every one needs help sometimes everyone has a story and the dens food bank at Hemel Hempstead have amazing staff they are friendly always talk to you kindly and have never made me feel more or less than who I am thank you so much for all your help you are all awesome humans
